Christmas Parties

It's time again to fill you in on all things happening in Baldy's world. Something I refer to as "another opportunity to post pictures of my beautiful girls and the many adventures we go on". Alyssa believes it to be more like "why are you so mean to me?". Today was the annual Christmas party at Larry and Carole's. It's one of the few times that we get together with Carole's kids and their families. Our food assignment was a salad so we went with the ever popular pasta salad, you know, the one with the pepperoni and bits of cheese? (mmmm...cheese) We usually get there a couple of hours before Santa, this gives us plenty of time to talk and snack, or as Lonna says, graze. This is in no way referring to anyone looking or acting like a cow. After dinner we get the kids together and read that story where everyone has a present and you pass it to the right and to the left so many times that everyone gets confused and you end up with the present that the neighbor right next to you had and you wonder why you had to pass it around so much. It's still fun to watch.

After all is said and done, the presents are opened and you find that everyone has the exact same present. Less tears that way.

Next up is the gifts from grandma and grandpa, we usually go from youngest to oldest but this year Carole threw a curve and they drew numbers corresponding to each kid. Alyssa got a DS game. One of her favorites. Mackenzi is sitting next to her trying to open the latest album from Frodo. You know, that kid from Utah that was on American Idol?

Kelsie also got a DS game, then took her turn picking the next recipient. And see! Kenzi is happy because she got the CD open.

These 4 lucky players were told to go sit in the corner each time their number came up. Tanner (third from the left) kept asking why they were in the corner but there would be no explanations from the grandparents. After everyone else got their gifts and opened them, they finally got their gifts. It turns out that when you don't give the grandparents an answer when it comes to Christmas ideas, you get put in the corner and you get a gift card. I think I might try this tactic next year. I'll probably just get sent to the corner.

Devin got a Nerf assault rifle, complete with an 8 shot magazine and laser sight (so totally cool) and promptly started shooting me with it. After a few more attacks and a stray bullet that crossed about an inch from my nose, both Devin and his dad were grounded from the rifle for the rest of the evening.

As with many families, we have a corner, but not the naughty corner mentioned above, where all the girls congregate and catch up on all the latest happening in each others families. It's at times like these when you get to hear an awesome story that will bring tears to your eyes. Like the one about someone getting pulled over. (you'll have to ask me about it, hilarious.)

More talking, more stories, and then....

Santa! Woo hoo! Time for everyone to sit on his lap and tell him what they want the most. Also time for Santa to tease the kids with questions about how clean their rooms are and if they have a boyfriend/girlfriend.

Alyssa is asking for her knee to get better and also educated Santa on what an "umm" is. When Santa asks what you want and you say "ummm" and he says "I don't know what an umm is" and you feel dumb and all the other kids are laughing at you. Not this year. These kids were prepared.

Kelsie wanted you to see that Santa believes that reading is important. One party down, one to go. These family parties are turning out to be great blog material. Until next time, Merry Christmas.

I think we need Santa. And I think you would be the perfect Santa. Want an assignment?
